Kenyan Rotary Meetings Continue, Relationships Develop
Westlands Rotary Club of Nairobi was Dave Maupin’s first stop this morning. Introduced as the key speaker of the discussion, Maupin told of Southern California’s Rotary members, and their efforts in the fight against AIDS in Kenya. His presentation also focused on the American children and their fundraising efforts concerning the Quarters for Kenya foundation.
At one point during the meeting, a Kenyan Rotary member expressed his concern regarding the AIDS epidemic in America. He brought forth the topic of immoral behavior being promoted to the youth and public of America through Hollywood and the entertainment industry. The man stressed that, in order to effectively fight AIDS, America must first change Hollywood.
As the meeting concluded, the Kenyan club spokesman requested that Maupin send them the necessary paperwork in order to form an international partnership. Maupin had attempted to establish these Kenyan connections, by email, during the six months prior to the trip, but was unsuccessful. Maupin stated that, “There is great value in the face to face relationships that we are developing in the Kenyan culture, as a result of this trip.”
