Flight Forced Down – AIDS Effort Continues
An engine oil leak forced an immediate return to Bangor, Maine airport today, altering the plans of the “Spirit of Charles Kean” flight. David Maupin, navigator, will press on to Nairobi, bringing hope to orphans of AIDS.
Despite a potentially dangerous engine oil leak, that sprayed the windshield of their single engine Cessna, experienced pilot Ron Maines was able to safely return the plane to Bangor, Maine. David Maupin reported that both were safe, and that due to repairs, the small plane would be grounded.
Maupin will continue on to Nairobi, Kenya, via commercial airlines, to deliver funds, raised through the hard work of Rotarians and schools, to benefit the orphans of AIDS. Funds will be used to build at least two new orphanages.
Allan Greisemer, Co-Chairman of Quarters For Kenya, stated Sunday that, despite this set-back, the cause will continue. “We hope to raise $250,000 in the next two years, to help save a generation of children from AIDS infection. Within the protected and nurturing environment of the orphanages, these children will have a chance to plan for a new beginning on the African continent,” said Greisemer.
